Description:
DYW Live in partnership with AtkinsRéalis, City Gate Construction and Kier Group is excited to bring a four day work taster on The Built Environment giving learners an experience of the wide range of different careers from entry level careers working on a construction site through to architects, civil engineers and site managers.
Spaces are limited so please apply early to avoid disappointment.
The focus of each day will be:
- City Gate - Entry level/early career jobs
- City Gate - intermediate/post qualification jobs
- Kier - Senior and highly qualified jobs
- AtkinsRéalis - Highly qualified jobs (with a design/consultancy focus)
- Friday - Drop in sessions for learners/teachers to ask questions and speak to employers
To accommodate the school timetable as best as possible the schedule for Days 1-4 is:
- 9:00 - 9:20 - Employers will provide an introduction to the jobs being focused that day
- 9:20 - 9:40 - Employers will provide more information about themselves and the type of work they do within the build environment
- 9:40 - 10:00 - Employers will provide guidance around key work elements (workplace behaviour, social media usage, do's and don't of applying for jobs and what to expect when starting work)
- 10:00 - 10:20 - There is a project for learners to participate in which has been broken down into four tasks, the employers will use this time to introduce learners to the day's task.
- 10:20 - 14:00 - Learners will have this time to work on their project and we anticipate them having approximately 2 1/2 hours, excluding time for a break and lunch at usual school times, to complete.
- 14:00 - 14:30 - Employers will listen to learner's solutions to their tasks (learners will be encouraged to do so via camera/microphone) and will feed back on the task.
- 14:30 - 15:00 - Employers will provide careers guidance on how to pursue the jobs focused on that day and where learners can get more information.
Additional Requirements:
Learners will be need to complete a short questionnaire before and after the work taster.
These sessions will all be held in GLOW Teams. We are intending to use Mentimeter throughout the week to facilitate interaction with learners directly, so learners will need access to devices to participate.
Other Info:
Learners will have an opportunity to submit photos/copies of their work for employers to review.
